OUR PLATFORM
-
Bargain to win. In 2023, we changed the way we bargained with the Big Three and won bigger than any contract in decades. But we didn’t stop there. We took our contract campaign model to Daimler Truck, Cornell University, Rolls-Royce, Ventra, General Dynamics, Volkswagen, and more. If we want to win bigger than ever before, we need to take on every employer in every sector, whether it’s IPS, Aerospace, Agricultural Implement, TOP, Auto, Higher Education, or Gaming.
Aim high, and inform the membership. We have encouraged our members to demand more, bargain transparently, and take action together to win strong contracts. We will continue to use this battle-tested strategy to win strong contracts.
Invest in our members. We have committed real resources to communication, education, and bargaining strategies. Our members deserve every resource to win the strongest contracts possible. When we invest in our contract fights, we’re investing in our members and making your dues dollars work for you.
-
No more divide and conquer. Our unity is our strength, but the boss keeps us divided by pitting us against each other through tiers, whipsawing, and divide-and-conquer management. We are committed to ending ALL tiers, from wages to benefits to retirement security, in every sector.
Equal pay for Equal work. We have successfully ended wage tiers at dozens of plants across the country, and enshrined Equal Pay for Equal Work into our contracts. We have won 80%+ wage increases overnight for thousands of workers from GM Subsystems to Daimler Truck and beyond.
Kill tiers in every sector, and win back retirement security at the Big Three. While we have ended wage tiers at many employers, we need to spread that success into every sector we represent. In 2028, we’re going to take on the Big Three to overcome the biggest tier of all, and win retirement healthcare and pensions for all. We will use every tool we have to fight for retirement security for ALL members and retirees.
-
Keep the membership informed. We are committed to transparent member communications to all UAW members, so you can see how YOUR International Union fights for YOU. An informed membership is an empowered membership.
Support one-member, one-vote. A member-led, fighting union must also be a democratic union. We support One Member, One Vote to allow members to directly elect their top leadership.
-
More members = stronger contracts. We support organizing to grow our union, which gives us the power to win better contracts. Right now, just one in five auto and auto parts workers are union members. If we want more leverage to win a better life, secure retirement, and higher wages, we need to grow our union.
Keep leading the labor movement. We’ve added over 80,000 members in the past three years, leading the labor movement in large shop organizing, from Volkswagen to higher education. We want to keep that success going.
-
We aren’t loyal to political parties, only union members. We’re focused on the issues that matter to our members: fair wages, affordable healthcare, retirement security, and time away from the job.
Uniting the membership. An injury to one is an injury to all. We must not be divided by racism, sexism, nationality, or anything else that weakens our union and the working class.
-
Securing massive product commitments. We’ve used the UAW’s political muscle to fix broken trade policies, protecting our work in the Heavy Truck and Automotive sectors. Because of this strategy, we’ve already won billions of dollars in new product commitments at GM, Stellantis, and Detroit Diesel. We will expand these efforts to more companies and sectors.
A real strategy to deal with AI. Companies are looking for ways to automate our work. AI is their newest tool for undermining our power. We have a comprehensive strategy. At Volkswagen, we negotiated specific language to limit the use of AI. We’re committed to giving our bargainers and union reps the tools they need to address this new threat. We must use our collective power to make technology work for us, not the other way around.
Work to live, don’t live to work. Everybody deserves time with friends, family, and loved ones. Our team is committed to adding more vacation, personal time, and to reducing the company’s ability to use mandatory overtime. In recent years, some companies have abused contract language allowing so-called “emergency” overtime. We’re determmined to close these loopholes.
What We’ve Won
THE Big Three: From the Stand Up Strike to 2028
In 2023, we raised the bar for transparent communication during negotiations, empowered members to take action, and kept the companies guessing with the Stand Up strategy.
25% wage increases across the board
Top rate over $40 an hour for production and over $50 for skilled trades by 2028
COLA for the first time since 2008
Ended the “perma-temp” system and raised the minimum temp wage to $21
Ended wage tiers across plants and divisions
Cut wage progression from 8 years to 3 years
Won back the $500 holiday bonus for retirees
Increased pension multiplier and 401(k) contributions
In 2028, we are headed back to the table to finish the job. It’s time to win back retiree healthcare and pensions for all.
Contract Victories in HEAVY TRUCK, HIGHER ED, AEROSPACE, IPS & more
We didn’t stop at the Big Three. We took our contract campaign strategy to the rest of our union. We kept fighting and kept winning.
At Daimler, we won COLA and profit-sharing for 7,000+ members in Region 8.
At Cornell University, we won the first-ever COLA in higher education at Local 2300 in Region 9.
At Rolls-Royce and GE Aviation we built strike threats that won big contract wins in Region 2B
And we have brought our contract campaign model to dozens of locals across the union, training up our reps, local leaders, and members in taking on the boss to fight big and win big.
DELIVERING FOR RETIREES
We didn’t just win big for active workers–we also took care of our retirees. We won back the $500 holiday bonus at the Big Three. And we kept going, making improvements to the VEBA, including major increases in the over-the-counter benefit and adding a new HRA benefit, putting hundreds (soon thousands) of dollars per year in our retirees’ pockets.
GROWING OUR UNION, BUILDING OUR POWER
For 50 years, the non-union plants have taken our market share and weakened our leverage.
Under our leadership, we successfully organized Volkswagen Chattanooga and won a first contract that provides job security, life-changing wages and benefits, and inspiration for tens of thousands of non-union auto workers to join our union.
Along with tens of thousands of workers in IPS, higher education, and more, we have grown our union and grown our power.
Let’s keep it going. Our strike fund is strong, our army is growing bigger, wages are up, and we are ready to keep taking on corporate America.
WE’RE READY FOR THE FIGHTS AHEAD
In three years, we’ve taken on some massive fights across every sector of our union.
In 2027, we have major contracts expiring at John Deere, University of Washington, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Magna, and hundreds more.
Elect a proven team to keep fighting and keep winning.
