Scott Zuckschwerdt was appointed Region 1D Assistant Director on March 20, 2020, by President Rory Gamble at the request of Director Steve Dawes.

Before assuming his current role, Zuckschwerdt served UAW members as an International Representative for Region 1D. In his role as a Servicing Representative, he handled several GM assignments, along with TOP (Technical, Office, and Professional) assignments and IPS (Independent Parts and Supplier) worksites. His territory included Flint, Lansing, Traverse City, and Shiawassee County.

In April 2010, Zuckschwerdt was appointed to the Region 1C staff as an International Representative by UAW President Ron Gettelfinger. During this time, he bargained with more than 40 employers, played an important role in organizing several worksites, and led strikes when companies refused to respect union members.

Zuckschwerdt began his career at GM’s Flint Truck Assembly (UAW Local 598) in 1994 as a temporary employee and became a permanent employee in 1995. Over the following seven years, he also worked at Buick City (UAW Local 599), Flint V8 Engine, and GM’s North American Engineering Tooling Center—units of UAW Local 659, which remains his current local union. During this time, Scott completed a Die Maker apprenticeship and earned his Die Maker Journeyman card.

While active in Local 659, Zuckschwerdt achieved several notable achievements. He was elected Joint Council Delegate, District Shop Committeeman, and Shop Committee Chairman at GM’s Flint Tool and Die, now known as the North American Engineering Tooling Center. He also served as a V-CAP representative, a Worker-to-Worker representative, and a member of the local’s Bylaws Committee. As Chairman, he led the Local Agreement Bargaining Team during the difficult period of the GM bankruptcy, standing firm to protect members’ jobs and futures.

Zuckschwerdt, often called “Zuck” or “Z,” was born in Corunna and now lives in Owosso. He enjoys cooking and is an avid outdoorsman who spends his time fly fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and traveling with his family: his wife, Diane, a member and elected Chief Steward of UAW Local 6000, and their sons—Jacob, a recent graduate of UAW-represented Northern Michigan University, and Joshua, who is currently studying at UAW-represented Wayne State University.
